Warning Mermaids

Hudson River

It was a sunny autumn afternoon when Taylor and I found our way to the Saugerties Lighthouse. After having driven past the destination marker on Rte. 32 for the past several years it was time to see what we could see. We drove down a winding road and turned onto another and continued looking and anticipating. Unsure of what was ahead, we peered out of the car windows, searching until at last we had arrived, only we hadn't. We pulled into a parking area which marked a trail head and we continued our search on foot. What an adventure this was turning out to be. Wooden paths and a sandy trail bed shadowed by trees and reeds left us unsure of what we would encounter and I found myself enchanted as we came closer to that which we sought. As we walked along the path, breaks in the trees opened up to the Hudson River stretching to the North. I found myself wondering about the hidden treasures of the Hudson Valley when above the reeds peeked a red brick house against a bright blue sky.

Saugerties Lighthouse

Tay and I crossed a low bridge with a forest of reeds that reached above us on each side, swaying blissfully in the wind. What a delight to come to a dock that brought us to the front door of the lighthouse where I stood in wonderment at what we had so long ignored. We continued along around to the back of the house where we met a picnic area surrounded by the magnificent waters of the Hudson River and a small plaque on the rail that read “WARNING MERMAIDS”. Certainly, we had found an enchanted place and I began to dream in my mind of lunches on summer afternoons with the warm breeze of the Hudson blowing through my hair.

The wind whipped around us and the air was crisp and cold. The worn brick on the house became the perfect background for my Silver Medallion necklace with its maroon pottery pendant. Pure silver shone in the sunlight and sparkled against the waters of the Hudson. Paired with a simple black tank and jeans, the necklace earring combo rocked. Yet we know versatility is key. Though showcased this day in the super casual you can be sure this necklace with these earrings transition easily into elegance with a little black dress.

The Saugerties Lighthouse is a treasure unforgotten along the Hudson just as this Jennifer Marie necklace is a treasure crafted from the Hudson. Open to the public as a museum and a B&B you can experience a part of Saugerties' great history, and you can be sure to find your very own treasure in our online shop!
